*love* finds

some *loves* to share with you for this month of *loving*

as I've always said
I believe in supporting the small/personal businesses
like myself
rather than going to a store and grabbing something off a shelf
{just a hint...things are done and made better with a small business}

I like to make the effort to find someone who carries that product
or who makes their product themselves
hope you enjoy my recent finds

i'm in love....

with this dress
and this beautiful tank
but I am in fact staying away momentarily because I've got the bedroom to work on first...
but I have a feeling they will end up in my closet sometime this spring...
afterall...last year {beginning of '09} I made the promise to myself to wear more dresses...
and I'm sticking to it!

"I knew it was for you when she showed you the key!"

That was a quote by hubby...when we came across the gorgeous trunk...He said..."all she had to do was bring out the key Martha, and I knew you were sold!"

In my quest to bring home a desk I had my eye on for a bit...and since hubby had the day off yesterday I asked if we could take a trip to a new store I came across a couple of months ago to pick up that lovely desk...it was perfect...not to big...not to small....some drawers that I really loved because they were pretty and functional for my business...

But we came to realize "you should never WAIT when you find something you love!"....because it was gone...S.O.L.D! I took a deep breathe and moved on to then find a nightstand for Bobby's side of the bed...nope...nada...zilch...but we stopped by a new store we hadn't noticed before....and we fell in love with something else....

"We" was the key word in that last sentence...because it was "WE"...I haven't seen Bobby get so excited about a purchase to-date yet...it was beautiful... gorgeous...and perfect just the way it was...

When you have the history with items...I think all the better...Bobby loves that part too...the trunk was made 75 years ago by a Dad to his Daughter...and she was selling it because well her and her husband are selling everything since they are retired to travel the country and purchase a vehicle to do so...

And you honestly don't want to even know what we paid for this trunk...it was such a GREAT price which made all the decision easier...even though I was sold on it the moment I saw there was a key lock!

We both are swoony-eyed...and it is sitting at the foot of our bed right now...we are in love with our new lovely...

An Inspiring Weekend...

Well...it's time everyone...I've been waiting all week to tell you about my inspiring weekend...to show pictures {although I must say I just got caught up with everything at Kasey's event that I don't have any pictures during the event...but I'll link some blogs that have some...taken by fabulous and beautiful Kim herself}

...And I've been excited to announce the winners...not so fast yet...because I'm back to my inspiring weekend...

When I sit down and think about my trip, my drive, the wonderful women I met, Kasey's inspiring evening {which I re-named a couple posts back to Inspiring weekend...because it truly was an inspiring weekend} I almost feel at a loss of words...it was that spectacular...

I spent most of my time with 3 beautiful women I just adore {Kasey, Kim and Jill}...2 I just met over the weekend {Kim and Jill} since I had already met Kasey before when I traveled to her sale...I had so much fun with them...getting to know them...hearing their passions...and just talking about life...what we love...why we love it...Jill you just have a sweet heart and so welcoming with your words...so inspiring and wonderful {Miss Kasey and Kim...I didn't forget you...but since I've written below since you hosted my dear and Kim you spoke}

I cannot even tell you how wonderful they were and how thankful I was able to spend quite a bit of time with them...amazing women with a love for vintage...every single person I met had such a welcoming heart...it floored me...I really shouldn't be shocked by that but I was and I still really am...I took away so much from every single person I talked to...and when I think about the weekend...I drove home a very inspired girl!

I'm inspired to do more with my vintage love...I'm inspired to continue my work towards my dream with my business...I'm inspired to continue to make relationships with these women I now treasure...and I'm inspired to share with you that I have friendships developing that make me feel good...that make me smile...laugh...and appreciate me for me.

To be honest...I am still working on showing more of myself outwardly to people...I love to listen to others and find what makes people tick but when it comes to me...I still close off sometimes...because in reality...it is who I am to be on the quieter side sometimes...but I'm also really not either...I tell you all very often...I am a continual work in progress to share me...fully me...and I just know it will happen...and I have many many wonderful women over this past weekend who helped me do that even more...I promise I will get there...but for now...I appreciate every moment I shared with each inspiring woman...

When I think about women inspiring women...my heart goes pitter patter with joy...it makes me smile...laugh...and appreciate friendships so much. When Kasey mentioned in a post that she had the idea pop in her head {I don't remember or recall when} that she wanted to host such an event...an inspiring one...mind you...that is truly what she meant...and she did!

I enjoyed a fabulous dinner the night before...went for a run Saturday...and met the girls at Christina's shop ~ Sage Creek ~ whom I also met the night before...a wonderful, wonderful woman and shop mind you...and then off to lunch with my friend Melanie in Geneva where we also walked around some local shops...

This was a weekend where I became recharged...refreshed...inspired...thankful...and grateful to so many people. Personally I have layers of stuff to shed...but these women made it okay for me now...I hadn't been away from my kiddos and hubby at the same time well since before kiddos...so I knew this would be a trip for me to do...something that would be great just for me...I loved that! I love girl time!

I know...I know...I haven't even gotten to the evening yet...but all of these pictures are from Kasey's beautiful home...now realize please I am not a photographer...so if you would like to see some great photos please visit this link to Kasey's inspired post and to Kim from Mimi Charmante...she's the wonderful photographer that talked to us...about basics girls...because basics is what most of us needed...and now I'm sorry to say...I would like a new camera...I miss my old camera the way it takes photos...but it just isn't digital...I love the one I have...but now I want to do more...learn more...and take better photos with a great camera...Kim inspired me personally in so many ways....but she also inspired me to really look behind the lens and how to do those fantastic pictures...she is amazing to say the least...and her photos are just that great!...so I'm saving my pennies girls!

Kasey pampered us with appetizers...wine...gift boxes...stacked up high below...and so many gifts donated from so many sponsors we all walked away with a treasure chest...we drew numbers for a gift...received a beautifully wrapped gift box...

but more importantly to me anyway than the gifts was just her precious hosting {Kasey} ~ she has a true love for people...and kindness that is inspiring...I just enjoyed my time with her...she inspired me to open up more...to blog about everything my heart desires~no holding back...and to keep doing my style little by little...I have a love for vintage...for me...it's a vintage with some beachy accents...whites...creams...but I also have to have some color too...and I love how we all can personalize our vintage style to reflect who we are...our homes are a reflection of who we are...so why not stock it with things you really only truly LOVE...I've always had a love for this style...but you know I waited...waited...and waited to do anything about it...and finally about a year and a half ago...I said no more...I'm just going to do it...add piece by piece as I go along...and I'm doing just that now...

{I couldn't resist taking a shot of this #13 since it is my FAV}

I'm inspired by lovely Christina from Sage Creek who has her own shop...she's got to be one of the sweetest persons and a love for vintage since she was a little girl...I loved hearing about when she knew her style...from a very young age ~ she was born to do what she does!!!...Me I'm still learning. As a young girl...I would wear dresses and my mom would buy me the cutest shoes to go with them...but I refused of course being the stubborn girl that I am and had to wear cowboy boots with every outfit...I think my mom was mortified in the beginning just because she would always plan our outfits as moms do of young girls...and NOPE I just wouldn't do it...but she finally accepted it and laughs at it now...now I don't think cowboy boots are necessarily my style...but I realized when Christina was talking that I made a style choice even at that age...I wanted to be me...and only me...I'm honestly still finding my style {I know what I love...it's not that with clothes...it's finding what I love} because I have spent so much time growing up hiding my girlie side. It was always there...but I never reflected it...never...but when I did this dress post awhile back...I realized I am going to embrace my girlie side because it is one of my favorite sides to be honest...life is about more than how we look so that is not what she was saying. But how we dress is an expression...a very important expression of us! ...you should present yourself with what reflects you as a person...and no one else...that people are watching and can learn about you in just how you present yourself...that you can be comfortable and stylish {like my shoes on the drive down}...and times where frankly it may be out of your comfort zone but go for it if it's you! Find what makes you...you and wear it with confidence.

So me...this girl who now wears more dresses...who has always loved to have a few ruffles here and there...who loves her black, grey...browns...and pops of colors too...her boots and flats...isn't changing who I am but will start reflecting my heart, soul, and me more...so don't think I'm changing me...I'm just going to show you more of me!

{and shells I love...}

Now you all know...maybe I'm becoming known for super long-winded posts...but sharing my thoughts in written form has always come easy. I know I'm not the best writer...but just stay with me a bit longer...I'm almost done...it is just those 20 page essays I had to whip out in college almost every week to blame that I write so much...

The evening wasn't over before each and everyone of us got to sit down with eliwill and her twin sister ~ Brooke to make and design our own key necklaces...now that was so fun and interesting but I do have to admit that I had A LOT of help...but that was okay because it was the process I enjoyed so much.

Sunday morning came to say goodbyes and to be thankful my entire drive home...it was a peaceful drive where in the box we were gifted with a lovely CD from Kasey...and I got asked from hubby how many times I listened to it...well my response was since I forgot my CD's maybe 3 times with some interruption for Christmas songs too and a couple of 80's songs...yes you heard me...I have a thing for 80's music...remember I said music...not 80's fashion...

so thank you Kasey and every woman that was a part of this inspiring weekend. I met so many lovely women that I was inspired by all!

Now are you all ready to jump for joy for the winners...because I am...now I didn't do the automated generator...just didn't...I did the old fashioned way...because I think it is funner {I know not a word}...and trust us...we were honest with it...

and the winners...

A deep breathe....and an added giggle...

I'm not going to even say I've been somewhat MIA this week [me saying that is actually saying that right?}...I've not been writing anything {like I'm some writer but you get where I am going right ~ those that write blogs know what I mean}...

but mostly

I've been MIA{mentally MIA} from my husband....

MIA from....my girls....

MIA....from work...

MIA...from friends....

MIA....{and this one hurts bigger than all}....

with giving God my complete trust...and this is a completely different situation in case you are wondering...some days I feel like when it rains, it pours...

and then I look at the "rains" and know matter-of-factly...it could be much, much worse you know. I've seen and experienced worse!

So I must say ....deep breath....take a big deep breath....

regroup...

keep calm and carry on! {I love that saying! and if only I could do it 100% of the time...which just letting you know beforehand it didn't happen these past two weeks with this issue}

What has happened...

I had placed orders with some wonderful...all wonderful businesses over the last month or so...some were spread out...days apart...others weeks apart with shipping just because of various reasons...

all sent via the postal service {and as I am writing this I am ironically seeing a postal commercial in which it makes me cringe right now}...

And the first package...

didn't receive....NOPE...even though tracking indicates so....didn't receive it....
So I let both the post office and sender know...thinking perhaps it was just a mistake by the post office...because I did receive a package from someone completely different the same day...home at time of delivery so nothing was taken off of my porch...First of all...who would take just 1 package out of 2
Secondly, I was home!

Okay so spent a week trying to locate this package...talk to neighbors and those that our addresses used to get mixed up when we first moved here 4 years ago because new subdivision, etc.

NOPE...pretty much said nothing the post office could do....

So sender is very patient and understanding at the time...gave her what I had found out with conversation, etc.

Package is resent...in the meantime 2 other orders were placed before the first went missing...mind you not knowing this would get worse...

So...one of my packages takes 2 weeks to even get to the STL area...odd...very odd we both talked about...but arrived in the area and let them know I would let them know ASAP when I received it because they were worried even before me...I didn't bother checking and Monday comes and goes when it should have been there...so I checked the tracking since I assumed since it was in our downtown area...it should arrive soon to our home so that is why I didn't check the exact date it was scheduled for delivery...

The Number said delivered...not in fact delivered...I was home at mail time...no package...and I e-mailed the first person since she was supposed to re-send, etc. to get tracking info because my stomach dropped when I saw this happen again, and I got scared...that number said delivered on the same day too...

I AM FREAKING OUT!!!! HUGE! BIG! BALLING MY EYES OUT...I not even kidding...and not saying it that way for dramatic reading...just ask hubby...I was a basket case...I've been consumed...MIA from my family and the outside world trying to get this figured out over the phone...

So I hesitantly contact someone I had ordered from and wasn't sure if she sent my order because I was going to put a halt to that and give hubby's work address...can't even use my parents since they have the same mail person as me {same subdivision just farther down}...

And well she was so efficient with her work and sorting orders she mailed it and I should have received it Monday as well....my heart dropped...

So not ONE....not TWO...not THREE...but FOUR packages {one of them resent from someone so 3 orders} are MIA right now...

Not only am I mortified...I am horrified because most who know me...know that I am business owner...I understand everything a personal business does...I promise I understand EVERYTHING...

Some more facts?

Can you tell I am about facts....{I was pre-law in college so facts are a great language for me}

My normal carrier on both of those days was not working but a substitute....so that should say something huge...but I guess not...

3 out of the 4 were said delivered but were not because I WAS HOME...and NO PACKAGES there...I tell you I am a HAWK with the mail...I always have been and got that from my Dad...if we knowingly see mail delivered...right that instant we ALWAYS grab it! Lets just say I could possibly be diagnosed with OCD if ever checked...because I cannot stand not addressing mail the minute I see it...it definitely drives Bobby CRAZY...literally...{mail makes me happy and so much easier to order from people you want to support than walk into a crazy store where you don't enjoy shopping...that's why I enjoy what I do...I shop in my comfy pajama clothes....HA!}...

I have filed numerous reports with 3 reference numbers and the postal inspector's office tells me everytime they will get back to me in 2 days...NOPE...BIG FAT NOPE on that one...and so I call back...got yelled at because I questioned the fact to the customer service rep that I would like an update on something since I was told 2 days...NOT 2 days...and I asked why...
 and if it really was going to be 2 days...at first he didn't acknowledge I even asked him a question in which I asked him why he was ignoring me and in a yelling tone I was told...you just have to wait 2 days!....and I can tell you have I waited two more days and nothing....

Then I am told by my local office there is nothing they can do because the inspector's office will get back to me in which 1 of the 3 I talked to before I got hung up on mind you...and had to start the 1-800 "push those stinkin' number thing" all OVER again...told me the local post office would get back to me...HUH?

I have talked with the USPS supervisor since I don't get returned call from the postmaster EVERY DAY FOR TWO WEEKS pretty much...nothing...the substitute carrier said they were delivered...and someone is lying...albeit in transit to my house...the sub carrier...or neighbors who are not forthcoming...

So now what?....

I realized Thursday of this week that I may never get an answer...BUT I will never quit trying....not getting your mail is a BIG deal...even though those items are just "things" in life....they are "lovelies" to me...and being violated with things taken from you is the bigger point here...

I have to give this to God...and allow him to do his work...

I have figured out the reason this has made me so sick is that it not only hurts me....but I am trying to explain that this hurts these wonderful women who are sending me these items and their businesses too...it's not just me it hurts...

Believe me...I do not want to spend my entire day almost every day {some days only a 1/2 day} on this anymore...I'd rather have my items I ordered...little lovelies I loved even before they were here...

I am mortified this hurt my ordering reputation with these businesses because I just adore them...I have gotten to know these wonderful women with their writing...and I have tried to explain to them that I would never harm them...I am an honest person...and that I am working NONSTOP to try to get this resolved...because quite frankly...I rather be enjoying my vintage items than having people make me cry...getting yelled at...seeing these businesses lose money...

Well two businesses have worked me with so well on this issue...one so gracisouly refunded my order in which I have to find a way to help her because it breaks my heart...she is one of the sweetest and my most favorite blogs to visit...and the other is the same...and without even thinking about it she set aside replacements for me when I see her very soon...now that is exactly why I want to support these women...I cannot even describe what their understanding and believe in me has meant...

Really how kind are they?...so I am so thankful for everyone that has supported me...my poor friend who happens to be a neighbor simply called me about a dessert...she just asked how I was and I broked down balling on the phone...which if you know me...I am so embarrassed because I don't cry in front of others...you know part of that bottling things up unless it is my rock solid people like Bobby and my parents...

and I felt so blessed today as I took a break from calling and doing everything I can to find out anything....went to my mother's group...and they are praying over this situation too...and their wonderfully nice kind words because they know me and the kind of person I am...

I thanked God today for a new day to start over...I have let this consume me...I don't do well with things I cannot find a resolution too...I have a hard time just giving those things to God...but the love you receive from friendships when you need them I have found through this situation has just brought me to tears...I received an amazingly nice e-mail from a friend who just felt my pain for me and telling me she is praying over this too...you cannot get better than that.

A realization came a couple nights ago when talking with my mom...she just simply said...Martha listen to their {the girls} laughs...and that is what it was took to get me to snap out of this funk....obsession ...

I took a deep breathe...listened to the giggles from my little girls...and said a prayer that God will help me release this to Him...

To be quite honest...I know these are "things"...and such...I've been through worse...but I am trying to explain this not only hurts me not receiving my items...but it is hurting those senders who sent me my order BIG! I am having a hard time with that...but I also know I am not responsible for this...

Maybe some lessons learned here...

I encourage everyone who is mailing to not just track a package but maybe think to insure it too.

Friday when I asked my mother's group for prayers was hard for me...I don't ask for help or prayers...and when I received help with a listening ear from my friend across the street... I felt warmed...and her Grandmother who was an Ex-Postmaster told me not to give up...because yes something happened to these packages...because I cannot have it to where I can never receive anything again...

All this was ordered before I knew a problem existed...so I have been told by some...just don't order...well I never would have if that happened...I mean these are gifts. Bobby and I wanted to take the initiative to support businesses like myself for Christmas not big chain stores...so many were gifts...some were items for myself...so that is definitely my solution for now...or to have it shipped elsewhere...a simple and quick solution I am doing...

BUT...I cannot stop living my life either and not ever order anything again...to be quite frank...I'd rather order online or e-mail someone with an order than step foot into a chain store where there is clutter and chaos...I did mention how I don't do well with that...yet I have always wanted to try out Black Friday...which doesn't even make sense, right? I guess that goes to show you I may in fact be nuts:) to want to try that day...

...and I still realize I don't do well in situations I am not able to find a solution for...or cannot control...

Thank you to those who have shown me, loved on me, and most importantly those businesses who will always be dear to me for believing me and in me through this situation...your kind words and understanding has meant the world...

...And if you really read this ENTIRE post...well I will extra enter you into my 100th post celebration coming up!!! Oh I promise I will enter you in an extra 3 times for my rambling...I'm just saying...I have so much to post about but everytime I sit down to write...this situation is what comes out...

By the way...these pictures are from hubby's birthday celebration night...dinner and gifts...and wishes...

I have been so caught up in finding solutions everything has been neglected and I became an obsessive, emotional person over this...I don't like that...so if you are someone who would take the time please say a little prayer that the right person comes forth with information I would truly love that:)

...this is a crime with what has been done...anything that didn't fit into my mailbox...I never received...

a prayer for those businesses that this happened to as well because it didn't just harm me...

A week to be thankful this week...that's what I'm doing:) Blessings to you all!

By the way...that gorgeous burlap banner is from {here}....and the coffee-stained tags are from {here}

It's Official!

It's official....

what you may ask...hmmm...the last official day of fall to me! Once Halloween is passed....Christmas season is full fledge for me...I have had to make a promise to hubby to AT LEAST wait until after Halloween to publically listen to Christmas music....Christmas movies...Christmas decor...YEP...I sure do....{I'm jumping up and down right now I'm soooo excited} I'm really the one who already starts to listen to the Christmas music station...and my FAVORITE movie late at night to watch....is Miracle on 34th Street....both old and new versions...something my sister and I started when we were kiddos....

Now I can start brainwashing my kiddos since my oldest is getting old enough to really take an interest now...YES...hubby has no chance when it comes to Christmastime...and I LOVE IT! I've already perused some of the stores we have been to just to get ideas since we have agreed I can add one BIGGER Christmas item each year...this year I'm thinking several small items...because I haven't really found or needed ANY bigger items this year....
Well just maybe after these pictures I have...one day I would LOVE to get a 2nd tree I can just decorate...I always promised hubby to keep a family ornament tree...things we have had...I would be in BIG trouble if Star Wars ornaments couldn't be put out you know...but someday...I want a tree with ornaments like this I can just put on there....
Love those old clock faces...LOVE IT!
And it wouldn't be our home if blue wasn't added somewhere...having a tree like on a little table or buffet...would just be beautiful!

And there is something about slipcovered chairs I just find so warm and cozy...and this is my FAV color...and different size trees grouped together...I LOVE things in multiples...Look out family....I just got inspiration for my Christmas presents this year:)...because Starfish and white ornaments make my day ANY day!I can picture my table like this....or this....with mismatched chairs....Oh...and if my bedroom looked like this at Christmastime...oh that would be soo beautiful...and I just might be able to keep it clean and laundry off of the floor...oh WOW...{yes...our bedroom and my purse are 2 things I struggle keeping organized and clean...just those 2 things....:)}

{all pictures taken from country living}

Are you all ready for Christmas because I sure am?!?!?!...

Confessions...

So I thought about an hour ago...because something else I have been working on...well I was stuck...so I'll do a confession of today...

In light of today...thank goodness it was a short trip for Daddy...he has arrived!...I'll say it again...he HAS arrived....and is present in the house...WOO HOO! Honestly these two days seem longer than his LONG trips...I know it is because of the rain...can't blame them...I don't like being cooped up either.

Confessions {from today}...

a glass of wine sitting right next to me...it's time to relax...

1. Have I ever told you I love my ottoman...it really makes that much of a difference to have your feet up...

2. It has been raining for several days now...it is so hard to be stuck inside...have I mentioned how irritating puzzles can be?...those darn little pieces...especially when all day one daughter is picking them up and the other tips it over as soon as she puts it back together... ***UPDATE***hubby says I should include the part when he was on his way home...I threatened to BAN all puzzles from our household to avoid all sisterly conflict****

another confession: I actually never could do that...since I really love to do them too:)

3. I fell asleep on the sofa last night working...and was kind of cranky waking up in my clothes...I'm NOT a night person...

4. Before I had to run some work errands...I forgot about the time and realized WOW it was lunch time...so what's a mom to do...grabbed a cheese stick for each...juice box {and if you ask Madison she will tell you it is from Trader Joe's...she always points it out ~ it's her fav}...Gorilla munch {she even KNOWS the aisle it's on}...OOPS...I confessed that...I promise...I really do feed them "food"...breakfast was more balanced fruit smoothies with waffles...

BUT you know what...it all works out because I got my errands done A LOT quicker keeping them occupied with lunch {snacks} on the go!

5. Parents of Teachers was today...have I mentioned how much I LOVE our PAT teacher...she really is fabulous...and my confession...well I always feel like I don't have to do as much "sit down learning with them when she comes"...another confession...I look forward to seeing her just as much as the kids do~ she is so fun and has great conversation...

6. I promised I wouldn't pick up anything extra today ...and I did...I accidentally did...double OOPS on that...hope honey skips right over this one:)shhh....

7. YEP...Madison asked about Moon ~ 2nd day now...I told her he was swimming with his mommy and friends...
8. I always save the Spinach pizza from TJ's for when Daddy is gone...he won't eat it...but the girls and I devour it...honestly...I could eat the ENTIRE spinach pizza myself...or at least I feel like I could...it's that GOOD! BUT tonight I was good...and waited until hubby came home for a late dinner...but I did snatch one piece:)

9. naptime for my youngest was a WHOPPING 30 minutes...but oh did I get the best HUG when I picked her up.
10. Tuesday nights if possible...I always try to watch So you think you can dance with Madison because she LOVES it and imitates dancing with them...and I feel horrible I got reminded I need to get my hiney in gear on getting her in dance...you see I was the tomboy girl...didn't do dance...absolutely know nothing about dance...until my dear friend I visited last month answered my 100 questions on what to do...since she is GREAT at dance and perfect to ask what to look for...
my confession: I felt really bad I haven't found a place we like yet seeing how happy she is dancing...

11. I was ever so grateful when hubby walked conveniently in for bathtime with the girls...YEP... I really struggle with bathtime...really struggle...I'm the mom who brings a book...or my computer in the bathroom and does work/projects while they play in the bath...after their bath that part I can do...I LOVE that part...to lotion them up...pajamas...brush their hair...it is the BATH that kills me...

12. Maybe this one should be a hubby confession...but Bobby sat down to finish the rest of So you think you can dance with us...and he so wishes he could dance like Legacy because...and I quote..."it would be BAD...*%#

{you can finish that quote!}...

13. Having the girls go through Daddy withdrawls...I am so excited it was a SHORT week he was traveling...but my favorite part was when Miss Madison came to sit by me all on her own for the end of the show...:) Made my day...at the end of a very long day with them...and what else...

she made my Monday too...

she drew a picture of her family at school...with all 4 of us...a rainbow...a desk and tools because over the weekend we {he helped me do this one to get done ~ great hubby} refinished the other end table and made a change to the 1st one I did...painted the handles...looks much better!...but it made me smile her putting those things in our family photo...just so observant...so sweet:)

13. {Yes...I'm doing a 2nd #13...just can't end on #14}...with a very long day...LIFE is GOOD!

Blessings to you all!
